The Epicentre
Situated in the heart of the Wairau Valley industrial zone on Auckland’s North Shore, The Epicentre was once a factory in which chequebooks and Lotto tickets were printed.
The client’s vision was to transform the existing secure print facility into a bulk retail and commercial development comprising ten tenancies varying in size from 400m2 to 1500m2.
This included provision of office accommodation on the first floor and retail premises on the ground. Substantial landscaping and re-contouring of the site was required to meet Council carparking requirements.
Working with existing structures always presents challenges, especially where there are inaccurate as-built drawings (or none as was the case in this instance). Hidden elements in the building that needed repairs, as well as the client’s decision to upgrade roofing meant additional unforseen amendments to the original scope. Some prudent valued engineering during the project helped overcome these challenges, ensuring the project ran smoothly and was delivered on time and to budget.
The Epicentre is now a fully occupied, thriving retail centre in the midst of a light commercial district of the North Shore.
