The Quadrant, Auckland
The Quadrant development in central Auckland is a beautifully designed complex of owner-occupier apartments and a 250-room signature hotel, adjoining the Hyatt Hotel and opposite the old Government House on Waterloo Quadrant.
The client, Melview Developments Limited, are very experienced developers known for their innovative thinking and passion for good design. This project was no exception, creating challenges for the design and management team.
And then there was the site. The client had purchased the land off the then owner of the adjoining Hyatt and with it came a long list of easements and agreements. The hotel had right-of-way over part of the land. There was an air-bridge that had to be allowed for as well as parking and access. Plus there were severe restrictions on noise and after hours activities and the Council had their own conditions. We had to understand precisely every single one of those easements, agreements and conditions to ensure that they were accommodated.
All the while being challenged by the client’s high design benchmarks.
The Quadrant was successfully completed in early 2006 with all but a few units sold, and the hotel in operation. The satisfaction we have in seeing this is doubled given that this was one of the most challenging projects we have undertaken.
