Naming Rights

There’s a new 25,000m2 landmark building on wellington’s cbd landscape and the name on it is the asteron centre.

When Asteron wanted to consolidate their two separate Wellington operations into a single floor environment, they investigated many premises options to meet the new form and fit of their business. Location was a key driver, and 55 Featherston Street opposite the Wellington Railway Station more than fit their strategic criteria. Asteron secured a large 2,800m2 single floor plus naming rights on this new ESD building which earned a 5-star NZGBC Green Star rating for Office Design. They were also drawn to the building’s central core and the expansive internal atrium, which creates a neighbourly go-to-zone shared by other tenants. Level 13 offers a large collaborative and flexible space to accommodate 185 staff, with room for growth for up to 235 staff.
The Building Intelligence Group provided full Project Management, Cost Control and was Engineer to the contract services.

The project was complicated by having the base building provide key elements, integrated from the design point of view into the fit out, but kept separate for contractual and financial reasons. Key to the success was the flexibility and responsiveness of the combined team and maintaining a clear and detailed understanding of the need to work in harmony with the base building. The Building Intelligence Group procured the soft fit out which had lead time constraints. “Every project has its challenges, it’s about finding solutions that work effectively” says Andrew Cooper, Project Director for The Building Intelligence Group. “Asteron had exacting standards, and we like that in a client. We like good design, executing it well, and coming away with quality that looks great and works in a practical sense.”

Energy efficient services such as chilled beam air conditioning contribute to a comfortable, efficient and economic environment. Design features included in the fit out are multiple breakout areas within the open plan office areas, a project space, video conferencing suite, front of house meeting rooms with operable walls to accommodate up to 200 guests.

The fit out of Level 13 was delivered on time, with the Call Centre operating ahead of schedule, and all Asteron staff were fully operational on the first planned morning. The project was delivered under budget. Andrew Cooper says the feedback from Asteron management and staff has been extremely positive. “The execution of the fit out and design has definitely exceeded their expectations. The condensed timeline was achievable through a very good working relationship between Asteron, The Building Intelligence Group and Fletcher Construction.
