The Young Foundation is a widely acknowledged thought leader, in a country where ideas of Social Innovation have gained the most traction. Its Local Innovation team works on practical projects with council and central authorities, community volunteers and public agencies to collaborate on neighbourhood empowerment, community engagement and wellbeing.
For example, FixMyStreet is an online mapping tool where people can tell local authorities about broken civic infrastructure, and join discussions about maintaining and improving their neighbourhood. As well as the practical and cost-saving benefits, it aims to promote engagement between councils and communities.
