Deloitte House, Wellington
The vision that the client had for Deloitte House (at the time known as Wool House) was to take the building from a ‘C’ grade to an ‘A’ grade standard.
The basic proposal was to add two floors to the top of the building and extend it laterally down the Customhouse Quay face as well as changing the position of the building entry to maximise retail space.
The challenges included having to integrate the new with the old to meet both the aesthetic and structural requirements.
We had to work around existing tenants and develop a work methodology that allowed for ‘quiet enjoyment’ of their space. And we had to complete the project in time for Deloitte to occupy when they had a lease that was expiring and could not extend it by one day.
In other words, a normal job.
An example of the challenges. At one stage during construction, agreement was still to be formalised with a tenant about access to their floor when the contractors had reached that floor. Our solution and instructions were to keep going. Build past the floor and come back and fix that floor later.
The project was completed on budget and on time.
